Rachel Alexandra once again reigns supreme when facing older males in the $750,000.00 G-I Woodward Stakes winning by a head over a bold charge from Macho Again, at Saratoga Race Course in New York on September 5, 2009. A crowd of more than 31,000 people were in attendance to watch the phenomenal filly. Setting the pace at breakneck speed, first quarter in 22.4, jockey Calvin Borel got Rachel Alexandra settled for a more conservative half. Rachel Alexandra is the first female to ever win the Woodward Stakes, where she faced older males for the first time in her career. This race clinched 2009 Horse of the Year honors for her.
