Zenyatta
Entered the Breeders’ Cup Classic as the only filly in the field. Broke last. Won at the wire by a neck. Tom rode at Del Mar during her era and watched what she did with a jockey’s eyes.
Citation
Triple Crown winner. Racing’s first thoroughbred millionaire. 45 wins from 51 starts. Tom’s portrait captures the bearing of a horse that had nothing left to prove.
American Pharoah
Ended a 37-year Triple Crown drought. Then won the Breeders’ Cup Classic in the same year, completing the first Grand Slam in racing history.
Affirmed vs. Alydar
The greatest rivalry in Triple Crown history. Alydar finished second in all three races. Affirmed held a head at the Belmont wire after a mile run side by side.
