This is the finish of the 1978 Belmont Stakes featuring Affirmed and Alydar. It was a race for the ages as Alydar collared Affirmed down the backside of the mile and a half race. It looked like Alydar would get by Affirmed several times but the gutty chestnut refused to give up. They came down to the wire together and Affirmed lasted by a nose.
By winning this race Affirmed completed the Triple Crown. He was the last horse to accomplish that.
