Few Thoroughbreds have captured the imagination of the sporting world quite like American Pharoah. His unforgettable 2015 season ended one of horse racing's longest droughts when he became the 12th winner of the Triple Crown, accomplishing what no horse had done in 37 years. He later added another remarkable chapter to his legacy by becoming the first and only horse to win both the Triple Crown and the Breeders' Cup Classic—an achievement that remains unmatched.

This portrait was inspired by a photograph taken immediately after American Pharoah's victory in the 2015 Breeders' Cup Classic. What first caught my eye wasn't the victory itself, but the beautiful warm rim lighting outlining his powerful frame. I immediately knew that placing him against a deep black background would make that light come alive, creating a dramatic portrait that emphasized his strength, elegance, and unmistakable presence. My goal was to eliminate every distraction, allowing the viewer to focus entirely on one of the greatest racehorses of the modern era.
