When I first saw the reference photograph for this black panther, I knew it would make a striking painting. The intense expression, piercing stare, and powerful open-mouthed pose captured everything that makes these magnificent cats both beautiful and intimidating.

While I stayed true to the spirit of the original image, I made one important artistic change. The panther's eyes were yellow in the reference photo, but I chose to paint them a vivid green to echo the colors in the background. That simple change creates a stronger composition, drawing your eye immediately to the panther's intense gaze before you notice the powerful jaws and razor-sharp teeth.

I've received many compliments on this painting over the years. It's easy to understand why—if you ever came face to face with a black panther wearing this expression in the wild, it's a moment you would never forget!
